Usually someone else would eventually complain, reminding me to pick some up, but this time I was the one craving chocolate milk.

So I got to thinking – how hard can it really be to make Chocolate Milk Mix? Anyone with taste buds can guess that cocoa powder and sugar are the main ingredients – ingredients that most of us have readily have on hand. So I started searching on the greatest DIY resource ever – Pinterest.

Turns out, it’s all real simple. Mix together sugar, cocoa powder and a pinch of salt. I kept it beyond simple and threw everything together in a mini food processor and gave it a whirl for a minute or two. Mixing cocoa powder is far more pleasant when you’re not inhaling lungfuls of cocoa powder dust.

It certainly looks and smells like your average chocolate milk mix. As for taste – it’s spot on. Here’s the thing though, you can’t mix this “as is”. Of course I originally ignored that advice and tried it anyway. I ended up with a lot of gritty sugary cocoa floating on top of your chocolate milk that just wouldn’t mix in. No worries though, innovative pinners and bloggers before us have already found a solution to this. Start your glass off with a bit of warm water and mix in the chocolate milk mix – this dissolves all the sugar crystals. Now add your milk, stir and enjoy.

I love this DIY Chocolate Milk Mix. It takes a minute to make with ingredients I always have on hand and it’s way cheaper than buying the prepackaged stuff. Pour milk chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave the chips for 30 seconds, then take the bowl out and stir. Place the bowl back in the microwave and repeat the process in 30-second increments, stopping, stirring and returning to the microwave until the chocolate has melted.

Set the silicone shot glass mold on a flat and mobile surface, like a cookie sheet. Pour the melted chocolate into the mold, filling each of the eight shot molds. Once full, use a skewer to stir the chocolate in each shot glass vessel. This helps ensure no air bubbles are trapped inside the chocolate.

Place the cookie sheet and silicone mold in the refrigerator and refrigerate until firm.

Once firm, pop the shot glasses out of the mold and fill with your desired ingredients.


How Much Mirror Glaze Does One Batch Make?

This easy mirror glaze makes enough glaze to easily covered two, six-inch buttercream cakes. It would also definitely be enough to cover one eight-inch cake.

You can try to salvage the glaze that runs off, but it can be more difficult to reuse if your colors combine.

I have never reused mirror glaze, but in theory you should be able to refrigerate leftover glaze in an airtight container.

If you can reheat it to the right temperature (about 110 degree F) and get it the right consistency, it should still set as it cools.

  1. In a cocktail shaker, combine the oat milk, crème de cacao, and vodka.

I&aposm a 51-Year-Old Man Who Drinks Chocolate Milk for Breakfast

A few weeks ago, my wife and I were visiting Los Angeles and went out to breakfast with some friends. At home I usually just have cereal to start the day, but when traveling I like to have a big meal. So I ordered my usual road breakfast: French toast, bacon, and—I asked the server𠅌ould you bring me a glass of chocolate milk? My wife offered a patronizing chuckle. My friends tried to hide their discomfort. I could read their faces: They obviously thought they were out dining with Adam Sandler, a man-child who would follow his food order with fart sounds and toilet jokes.

It’s not like it’s an unusual beverage to have with breakfast. I’ve seen people order Cokes to have with their hash browns. Others like a beer or a bloody mary to accompany their bacon. Nobody blinks twice: A Coke is just another form of caffeinated pick-me-up, and beers and bloody marys are the hair of the dog, the sign of a REAL adult. (A hard-drinking one, at that.)

But ask for a chocolate milk, and fellow grown-ups scoff like adolescents forced to share the playground with their younger siblings.

I can’t remember the first time I ordered a chocolate milk for breakfast in public, but I do remember the first time I noticed the reaction. The server seemed to smile with equal parts support and pity. (Though it was on the menu, I got the feeling it was rarely requested𠅎specially by someone over seven.) My wife, who likes her breakfasts with heavy-duty black coffee, expressed surprise. Not that she was embarrassed, but chocolate milk? Really?

The kitchen must have felt the same way. The chocolate milk I received, served in a pilsner-style glass, still had thick traces of syrup at the bottom as if the preparer (The cook? The server?) couldn’t have been bothered to stir more than twice.

Still, I am not ashamed. I drink my chocolate milk proudly.

Why should I be? It’s not a childhood crutch. (That would be adding the chocolate milk to cereal, and don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.) If I order eggs, I’ll have juice (orange or cranberry). But juice just doesn’t taste as good with the maple syrup and eggy dough of a top-notch French toast. Chocolate milk, frankly, hits the spot.

Second, chocolate milk is actually damned good for you. A series of studies has indicated chocolate milk is one of the best recovery drinks after a workout𠅎ven better than a carbohydrate replacement drink, according to one bit of research.No wonder: it’s high in potassium, calcium, and vitamin D, along with plenty of protein and carbohydrates.And it tastes like chocolate.

Okay, in my case it’s not like I’m recovering from a workout any more strenuous than the walk from the parking lot to the diner. Still, it’s the thought that counts.

Finally, have I mentioned that it’s chocolate?

I love chocolate. I love chocolate bars, chocolate cake, chocolate ice cream, chocolate-chip cookies, chocolate mousse and chocolate-dipped Pocky sticks. Having chocolate milk with breakfast is like a small indulgence, since breakfast was, for years, the one meal at which I almost never had chocolate.

When I was a kid, my family made its chocolate milk with Nestle Quik, Bosco or Hershey’s syrup. (I’m now exclusively a Hershey’s man.) But it was not to be had with breakfast. Frankly, there was no time. Breakfast usually consisted of hurriedly eaten Rice Krispies or Sugar Pops. (Only as a teenager did I discover Carnation Breakfast Bars—what a friend later described as “Snickers bars with vitamins sprayed on.”) Chocolate milk was an after-school drink.

Years later, I’m an adult. I can have chocolate milk any time I want. But you have to pick your spots, and I prefer to have it with my favorite meal of the day𠅋reakfast —ideally with French toast and bacon. Regardless of what the rest of the table thinks.

Glass of chocolate and homemade whipped cream

Do you remember the chocolate Dalkys or the Danone glasses? How can you raise your hand when you were your favorite dessert when you were little?

This dessert made time, surely many of you remember the legendary glass of chocolate and cream of all life , with its layer of chocolate and another of cream on top, clearly differentiated.

It is a dessert that triumphs at home whenever I do it, it is delicious. I usually prepare this cup at home for a snack . I admit that it is among my favorites, I do not know if because of the nostalgia of this dairy dessert, it clearly reminds me of my childhood, or how really good it is.

Also when preparing it, you know what your children really eat. Actually it is a very easy recipe, it consists of a traditional chocolate cream in a layer, topped with whipped cream and sweetened to taste.

The question lies only in deciding the sugar point, higher or lower, depending on the tastes of each, the largest amount of chocolate or the type thereof, whether it is 70% cocoa, 50% chocolate or milk chocolate.

In all cases we can enjoy a sweet and delicious dessert for both children and adults. Now you can do them at home in less than 25 minutes. Of course, you must have patience to cool and that will allow us to satisfy the cravings of the most demanding, a delicious dessert.

Preparation of chocolate cream

  1. In a saucepan mix the milk well with the cornstarch, stirring well until it has been diluted.
  2. Add the sugar and the cinnamon stick and put on the fire until the mixture thickens, taking care that it does not boil.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and remove the cinnamon stick from the mixture.
  4. Add the chopped chocolate and butter and stir until melted, always out of the fire.
  5. We work the cream beating it without until to get a fine and shiny texture. We pour the chocolate cream in the glasses that we choose for their presentation and reserve until they cool to room temperature.

Preparation of whipped cream

  1. While the chocolate cream is tempered we prepare the cream. For this we assemble the cream (35% fat), remember that the cream must be in the fridge a few hours before assembling it so that it is very cold. Use a stick mixer and start at the minimum speed. You can see the video above so as not to lose any detail of the process.
  2. Once assembled we add the sugar and continue beating until it is well integrated.
  3. We fill a pastry bag with a star nozzle, with whipped cream and sugar and fill each of the cups over the chocolate cream.
  4. We have to be very careful with the fact that the chocolate cream has to be cold before adding the cream to the top. If we do not have a pastry bag we can use a plastic bag to cut one of its tips.

Assembly of the cups and final presentation

  1. In this case I used glasses because I wanted 4 hearty desserts, more chocolate and more cream. Although if you use lower and wider glass cups, you can have more units of less quantity.
  2. These cups of homemade chocolate and cream should be eaten very cold, never leave them at room temperature.
  3. We can decorate our glasses with what we like best, I have put some colored shavings but we could decorate them with conguitos, lacasitos, M & M, s, chocolate shavings or simply without any decorations.

It is a real pleasure to put the spoon to the bottom and eat the chocolate cream and whipped cream together. You will notice that you are immediately transported to your childhood, although the effect only lasts as long as it takes you to eat the glass, as in the advertisement, in which the spoon looks for the remains in the glass cup.

This dessert is as good as it is easy to prepare. The classics never fail, that’s why the traditional glass of chocolate with cream is always a safe bet with which to please both adults and children at home. Do you dare to surprise your children with these cups?
